Transforming data into interactive experiences
2020-21
Data visualisation, Experience design, Design fictionsDue to the growing importance of data in understanding global issues, communicating complex information in engaging ways needs to be a priority. Unfortunately, most data visualization approaches focus on charts and graphs, making the data feel distant and impersonal.

In India, 1 in 8 deaths are attributed to air pollution.

As a part of Slow Studio we wanted to explore new ways to make data more tangible and meaningful. We worked on manifesting data through three-dimensional sculptures and interactive experiences that allowed people to physically engage with the information.

What if 1/8th of your life is missing or your phone becomes buggy everytime the air quality is bad?

We turned data sets into 3D-printed sculptures displayed at the Dubai Global Expo ; created animations to show data change over time ; designed whimsical objects, like a soap dispenser that changes color based on air quality ; and explored how data could be experienced through senses like taste and smell, like a leaking tap to symbolize water-related diseases.
