Woven Streets (2025)

Participatory approach to women’s safety and surveillance in Rotterdam

The project centers on co-creating speculative wearable technologies that resist surveillance while fostering networks of care. Participants design and prototype low-tech solutions for the future. These aren't polished products but provocative prototypes- tangible futures that spark conversation about agency, privacy, and community-centered safety.

By combining imagination, crafting, and empowerment, Woven Streets provides a holistic approach to technology and safety. The work culminates in public installations and storytelling that make visible both the current reality of harassment and alternative visions of safety. The project ultimately asks Rotterdam residents to become active agents in designing their own safety, creating wearable resistance that strengthens community bonds rather than depending on systems that watch from above.

Dutch Design Week ‘2025
This project was also presented at the Coalition of Safety Conference at the Dutch Design Week’25. I had the opportunity to host a workshop where I could talk to visitors about their definition of safety. I also gave a short presentation about the project. You can read more about the project here and the conference here
